We English: some thoughts on the editing process

by Todd ~ October 6th, 2008. Filed under: On the Web, Photographers.

British photographer Simon Roberts is blogging about his current project, “We English.” This morning I ran across his post about the editing process. In addition to his own thoughts, Simon also includes a collection of quotes on the subject from a range of other photographers such as Martin Parr, Alex Soth and Rineke Dijkstra. The most common practice, it seems, is to set your work aside for a time and approach it fresh, later, when your preconceived notions of what you were trying to achieve have worn off. The gap between desired effect and actual image won’t be yawning so wide.

Simon’s written about roadside memorials, too. A world-wide phenomenon, apparently.
